The Obama Administration and Congress are working to stimulate home sales through Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP) initiatives and economic stimulus packages, while the National Association of Realtors® also pushes for a comprehensive housing strategy. NAR President Charles McMillan said the housing sector is at the core of the current economic crisis, and stimulating the housing market is imperative.
Part of this plan includes the elimination of repayments for the $7,500 first-time home buyer tax credit. Proponents of the plan are also hoping that this credit will be extended to all home buyers. The overall focus of the stimulus plan is to keep mortgage interest rates low, boost home buyer confidence, and reduce the current foreclosure rate. For more information, check out the NAR’s recently issued release at Realtor.org.
